My passion for ponds began in 1994 when I was a senior in high school. Following the directions on a water garden pamphlet, my family decided to try to put a fish pond in our back yard. We started with a 120 gallons per hour pump in the deepest part of our 1,000 gallon pond that circulated the water through a hose to a small fountain. Needless to say our local garden center was not an expert on ponds. Our pond turned green with algae and was doomed with this poor system. That next spring, we expanded the pond, bought a larger pump and created our own bucket filter system. The system worked fine except for the fact that every 2-3 days we were dragging the bucket filter to the surface and cleaning the filter pads. Not only was this process a disturbance to the fish and plants, it was also very time consuming and messy.

     In the years to follow, I researched many garden centers and concluded that most garden centers are looking to simply sell their products rather than promote a successful system. Interested in discovering a more efficient system, in 1999 I began my own research on building and maintaining ponds. I started my own small koi breeding business and began to discover that balancing the ecosystem by working with Mother Nature is the key to successful ponds and healthy fish.

     By the beginning of 2001 I had found the Aquascape System, researched its philosophy and decided to take a chance. When I added the Aquascape System to my already existing pond the results were unbelievable. In no time at all, my pond was crystal clear and healthy -- I could see my koi at the bottom of my pond. The system works! No more dragging pumps, filters and hoses from the bottom of the pond. I had a totally external system that worked like a swimming pool. In the spring of 2001, Weller’s Ponds was born! The system has been nothing short of spectacular.
